People’s Artist Rasim Balayev, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers (AUF), confirmed this year’s recipient of the scholarship, which honours the memory of the renowned film director Rasim Ojagov.
At the beginning of the new academic year, People’s Artist Shafiga Mammadova, AUF First Secretary, sent a letter to the Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Professor Jeyran Mahmudova requesting the nomination of a third-year, fourth-year, or master’s student studying at film directing or cinematography who excels in academics and extracurricular activities.
The aforementioned university nominated Mammadali Abilov, a third-year student and veteran of the Patriotic War, for this scholarship of this year. Mammadali Abilov, a third-year student of TV directing at the university’s Directing Department, won the first award at CINEMO International Mobile Film Festival in 2023 with his social video filmed with a smartphone. Considering his outstanding academic record and other accomplishments, he was awarded the Rasim Ojagov scholarship.
Established in 2017 by the AUF Board of Directors, the Rasim Ojagov scholarship supports exceptional students studying audiovisual arts at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Several students have received the award in previous years.
AUF remains committed to supporting students studying cinema, including by provision of new textbooks and funding student films. AUF is also determined to continue taking steps towards publishing textbooks and supporting student films.
