AUF announced this year’s award winners on National Cinema Day, August 2nd, the professional holiday of cinema figures in Azerbaijan. According to a decision by the Union’s Secretariat, the following filmmakers have been selected as recipients of the Union’s annual award for 2025:
- Parviz Hasanov (Director) – for the successful directorial approach of the feature-length documentary “Bashlibel – the siege diary of a village”
- Daniel Guliyev – for the compelling visual approach in the films “Return of the Projectionist” and “Monologue of a Lonely Man”
- Sebuhi Atababayev – for outstanding art direction in the feature films “Taghiyev: Oil” and “Maybe”
- Fehruz Shamiev – for his contributions to the organization of international film festivals and in strengthening international ties of our cinema.
It should be noted that the aforementioned award is presented annually to creative individuals who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to the development of national cinema. The purpose of establishing the award is to highlight positive trends in Azerbaijani filmmaking and bring them into public focus. When selecting the nominees, the Union’s secretariat carefully observes and analyzes the cinematic developments of the past season, acknowledging achievements across various fields of filmmaking and determining the winners through an open vote.
To date, this prestigious award has been granted to a number of distinguished professionals, including people’s writer Anar; art director Firangiz Gurbanova; diplomat and public figure Ramiz Abutalibov; film and television director Nazim Rza Israfiloghlu; actor Fuad Poladov; sound director Asad Asadov; actor Farhad Israfiliov; film director Murad Ibragimbekov; film director Jahangir Zeynalli; cinematographer Yuri Varnovsky; composer Rauf Aliyev; director Mirbala Salimli; film scholar Sevda Sultanova; actress Zulfiyya Gurbanova; director Ilkin Yusif; animator Rashid Aghamaliyev; producer Intigam Hajili; director and producer Ali-Sattar Guliyev; producer Emil Najaf; actor Rasim Jafar; producer Orkhan Mardan, and others.
