A new film titled “Dead Hasan”, a joint production between Azerbaijan and Turkey, is set to meet audiences soon. The production is being carried out by Ultra Production and Poetika Film (Turkey), in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers and Public Television.
The film is produced by Emil Najafov, Parviz Mammadov, and Ali Isa Jabbarov; co-produced by Emrah Kılıch and Sevinj Aliyeva, while Elmeddin Aliyev and Duygu Develi serve as executive producers. The film is directed by Turkan Huseyn.
This co-produced feature combines elements of mystical realism and drama. It was written by Turkan Huseyn, with Ismayil Iman as co-writer. The director of photography is Vasif Velizadeh, production designer is Turan Yusifova, and assistant director is Asif Isgandarli. The sound engineer is Emin Mahmudov while the gaffer, focus puller and makeup artist are Ali Abilov, Ruhin Mirzayev, Adila Aliyeva respectively.
According to the film’s plot, Hasan, who is mistakenly presumed dead, suddenly opens his eyes, and the villagers come to believe he possesses mystical powers. As the story unfolds, events begin to continue around Hasan, and the screenplay develops within this mysterious and surreal atmosphere. In addition to mystical realism, the film also combines drama, thriller, and dark comedy elements. The cast includes Gurban Ahmadov, Natavan Abbasli, Gurban Ismayilov, Turkay Jafarli, Orkhan Isgandarli, Ulvi Hashim, Ramil Mammadov, Matlab Abushov, Sevincj Aliyeva, Eltakin Khan, Nigar Mammadova, Aziza Hashimli, and Vaqif Karimov. The casting was conducted by the Next Cast Agency.
Filming takes place in the Shamakhi district, as well as in the Gobustan, Zira, and Sahil settlements of Baku, including several central locations of the capital. The film is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers Public Television, and the Özsüt restaurant chain, which provides catering support.
The runtime is expected to be between 90 and 100 minutes, and it is rated for audiences aged 13 and above. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the film will first be screened at international film festivals, followed by a cinema release for the general public.
