The short film project “Green grass”, currently in development by screenwriter and director Nurlan Hasanli, won the pitching competition at Austria’s Linz Film Talent Academy which earned it the right to be presented at the Cannes Film Festival Market.
The Linz Film Talent Academy, which supports emerging film professionals, was established to contribute to the development of short films and debut feature projects with a strong artistic vision and to introduce them to the international film market. Selected participants are offered special masterclasses, mentorship, and meetings with international industry professionals. One of the most important stages of the program is the opportunity to take part in a four-day residency at the Cannes Film Festival. Within the framework of the Linz Film Festival, Nurlan Hasanli’s “Green grass” project won the pitching competition, thereby securing a residency opportunity at the Cannes Film Festival.
During the residency, the project will take part in individual and group sessions with mentors. At the end of the program, the film will be presented to producers, distributors, and festival representatives within the framework of the Cannes Short Film Corner / Marché du Film, and will also participate in a special pitching session.
The film “Green grass” tells the story of a tragicomic plan devised by a Bakuvian tourist guide and his wife as they attempt to migrate to the United States. The project is written and directed by Nurlan Hasanli, produced by Emil Najafov, Turkan Huseyn, and Ali Isa Jabbarov.
The Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers is among the project’s production partners. The director’s participation costs in the program were covered by the Union.
