The Turkic World Documentary Film Festival aims to preserve and pass on Turkic culture, one of the world’s oldest and most widespread cultural heritages, to future generations. Held for the ninth time under the motto “Freedom for the Oppressed,” the festival received more than 300 applications from Turkic states.
The winners on the category of “Docufiction”, “Short Documentary” and “Student Documentary” were determined by a preliminary jury consisting of Turkish documentary filmmakers and academics. In general, ten films will be awarded on various nominations.
The documentary film “In the Quest for the Yellow Bride” received the Modern Silk Road Tourism Belt Special Award from the Organization of Turkic States at the IX Turkic World Documentary Film Festival. Filmmakers from Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Hungary, and North Macedonia attended the festival.
Director Mubariz Nagiyev received the honours at the prestigious ceremony held in the conference hall of TURKSOY Headquarters Ankara. The film was also among the finalists in the feature-length documentary films category.
“In the Quest for the Yellow Bride” was produced in 2023 by the Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers (AUF) as part of the “Western Azerbaijan: Tangible and Cultural Heritage” project. Funded by the Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations, the film delves into the origins of the Azerbaijani folk song Yellow Bride (Sarı gəlin), its history, and the legends and tales surrounding it. The film aims to promote the material and cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan.
Although the film delves into the research into the origin and history of the folk song “Sari Gelin”, folk tales and legends around it, the main aim is to promote our material and cultural heritage in Western Azerbaijan.
It was written by Fuzuli Sabiroghlu and directed by Mubariz Naghiyev, cinematography by Fahir Samadoghlu and produced by Ali Isa Jabbarov. Filming took place in Baku, Ismayilli, Gadabay, and Kalbajar. The project is led by People’s Artist Rasim Balayev, the chairman of the AUF.
