Vice-chairman of the Guild of Azerbaijani Film Critics and Scholars, film critic and director Haji Safarov’s short fiction debut “Shadows in Reverse” will be screened in the “Short Films” section of the 21st Kazan International Film Festival.
The film is based on the novel “Shadows walking backwards” written by Rahim Dunyamali.
Years after being released from prison, the main character finds himself facing a dramatic dilemma — torn between love and revenge.
The film`s creative team is as follows: directed and script by Haji Safarov, produced by Emil Najafov, Haji Safarov, and Turkan Huseyn, cinematography by Elvin Mammad, composed by Nigar Suleyman, edited by Mirzali Alizadeh and Matlab Mukhtarov, production design by Bahar Damir, Parviz Bayramguliyev, and Gulnar Rahimzadeh. Vafa Fatullayeva worked as the assistant director, and Ulviyya Mammadova as the line producer. The leading roles were performed by Honored Artist Rasim Jafar and Zulfiya Mammadova.
The film was produced by “Chinar Film” LLC. In 2024, it was selected as a winner of the “Support for films in post-production stage” competition organized by Cinema Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers provided financial support for the production. The film also received additional backing from “Ultra Production” and the “Düymə” (Button) Agency.
